This award was established by the Japan Food Journal to promote steady growth in the food machinery and supporting industries as well as to acknowledge and express appreciation for successes. The awards ceremony was held for the 11th time this year.

Satake received the Excellent Food Machinery Award in the machine group for its Optical Sorter series. Satake’s Optical Sorters use multisensors to process images from both near-infrared (NIR) and CCD cameras and then remove low quality or foreign materials from a product flow with a high degree of accuracy.

The range of objects that can be sorted by Satake’s Optical Sorter series has expanded from corn, wheat, and beans to nuts, potato chips, and even wet products, contributing to an increase in the quality of food. Optical Sorters are also used in the industrial world to sort plastic fragments of car bumpers or household appliances for recycling purposes, contributing to environmental preservation.

Other award recipients include Rheon Automatic Machinery and Ishida Corporation.
